With a Canadian election looming, what environmental questions do you want to pose to candidates? One of my top questions concerns policy on fossil fuels.

Scheer makes his position clear:

“I will not apologize for standing up for Canada’s oil and gas workers and to defeat a government that is intent on phasing them out,”

An article in The Narwhal points out the Liberals questionable actions:

Although the Canadian government under Trudeau has made positive climate progress, many Canadians feel the Prime Minister’s position on the fossil fuel industry conflicts with his climate commitments. Trudeau has been a firm support of major oil pipelines proposed to export carbon-intensive fossil fuels from the Alberta oil-sands, and has gone so far as to say that the  Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline “will be built.” The federal government has also supported the creation of a liquified fracked gas export industry in British Columbia through the approval of the Woodfibre LNG terminal near Vancouver.

The Star comments on NDP’s Jagmeet Singh:

… New Democrats have discovered climate change. The party had been reluctant to take too uncompromising a stand on global warming for fear of alienating potential voters. That reluctance has gone.

Now the NDP is calling for an end to the entire fossil-fuel industry in Canada.

“The future of our country cannot involve fracking,” Singh said … referring to a controversial method of drilling for oil and natural gas. “It cannot involve the burning of any fossil fuel.”

Elizabeth May is fluent in all things Green:

Earlier this year, the Greens unveiled the party’s green climate action plan dubbed “Mission: Possible,” …

The party describes the plan as Canada’s answer to the Green New Deal put forward by members of the Democratic Party in the U.S.

The plan’s 20 points include ending all imports of foreign oil, declaring a climate emergency, banning fracking, and cancelling the purchase of F35s in favour of more water bombers to tackle forest fires.

Although my comments above definitely show my bias, the Climate Crisis is definitely the one issue that we should be focused on this election. Do you know what questions you want answered before you go to the polls?
