I have glass straws and metal straws at home.

I have a water bottle with a built in straw.

But…

What about going to a restaurant?

I often order water and my straws are at home so I am training myself to order water with the phrase “water no straw no ice, please”.

We really don’t need a straw to have a drink. Why do we think we do?

However, I have good intentions but a bad memory. So another way I avoid getting served a straw is to order  my new favourite drink with dinner – “hot water with lemon”.

*There’s a joke that goes with this order.

Years ago in the 70’s and 80’s (if you can believe that) we used to go to Longboat Key Florida for March Break. We were in the car the minute school was over and drove all night – 24 hours straight –  to see the sun. We loved our trips to Casa del Mar and at least once on our vacation, we lined up with the throngs of vacationers for dinner out. The restaurants were always back with lots of “geezers” there with their grandkids.

There was a joke about these old geezers going for dinner at 5 pm.

The waitress came to ask this couple for their drink order. He ordered a coffee and she ordered a hot water with lemon. The waitress turned toward the kitchen and placed the order – “one cuppa joe and one foot in the grave”.

Funny then in the 70’s but not funny now. LOL
