Dear Sir:
Nia:Wen Thank you for modelling how to show respect for all of your constituents.

I appreciated that you spent several months learning to speak the language of Mohawk people, Kanien’kéha. The interview with your teacher, made it apparent that this was a genuine gesture that took a real commitment on your part to do justice to your address in parliament.

Actions speak volumes and it was heartening to see the warm and encouraging reception your words received.

We need gestures of good will plus acts enabling significants shifts in policy and legislation towards more equitable relations with the First Nations, Metis and Inuit.

I am curious to see what comes next – following this admirable gesture.
