Anne Taylor is Cultural Archivist at the Curve Lake Cultural Centre at Curve Lake First Nation. She is a traditional Indigenous woman artist, storyteller and playwright.

She is a woman in high demand in her Curve Lake home and by settlers in all directions asking for just this one thing.

The members of the TRC Bobcaygeon group look to her guidance. Some also realize the burn out that explaining and advising can bring.

This is an attempt at acknowledging and expressing appreciation.

“I’m sorry to intrude…”

“Is this OK?”

Faltering with single word sentences

Settlers ask often for your translations

TRC Bobcaygeon grateful for your time

Learning as we go to speak the language

Of awareness and acting in a good way

Committed to uttering words from the heart

Until paragraphs emerge

Becoming poems and lyrics

Emerging into new stories

Of restitution and reconciliation.

Conversations between allies.
